LEDAIG 23 ans 1999 New Vibrations Gordon & Macphail

$450.00

Crafted from peated barley with a phenol content of 38 ppm, Ledaig now represents 70% of Tobermory Distillery’s production. This version, aged in a cask previously containing a single malt from the Isle of Islay, evokes the smoothness of Bowmore and the power of Ardbeg. Perfectly embodying Ledaig’s authentic, mineral, and uncompromising character, it has also been enriched over time with the iodine and saline notes that shape its profoundly “island” character.

Description

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Bright gold.

Nose : Both subtle and distinctive. Oxidative (turpentine), ashy, herbaceous (cut hay, sage), rooty (gentian), the initial nose reveals itself to be extremely deep and complex. With aeration, heady flowers (lilac, carnation) and fresh fruits (pear, mirabelle) provide even more richness.

Palate : Noble, nuanced. On the palate, flavors of dark chocolate, candied lemon, and liquorice peat, saline and mineral (slate) deeply infuse the taste buds. Then, the mid-palate evolves towards a deliciously indulgent range (custard, crème brûlée).

Finish : Long, refreshing. Inspired, the start of the finish recalls an oat field swept by a sea breeze and iodine (sea spray). As it progresses, noble spices (star anise, clove) and more empyreumatic flavors (incense, agave) find the perfect harmony with notes of vanilla and fresh nuts.
