Where the core Edradour 10 Year Old draws its character from Oloroso sherry casks, layering walnut, honey and stone fruit with floral, peppery notes, this 200th Anniversary release takes a different path entirely. Distilled in 2015, it underwent a full 10 years of maturation exclusively inside first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, rather than the quick 6-to-12-month sherry finish common on many whiskies today. This is a multi-distillery grain whisky blend, drawing together heritage stocks from across Nikka’s history. At its core are Coffey Still grain whiskies from Miyagikyo and Moji, made from corn. Layered into this are rarer, more experimental stocks from Satsuma and Nishinomiya, including Coffey-malted barley, grain spirits and aged reserves. Bottled at 48% ABV, expect beeswax and fresh fruit on the nose, a creamy vanilla palate, and a smooth finish of cinnamon, ginger and honey.
