BUNNAHABHAIN 11 YO 2013 Itinéraires Decadent Drams

Many independent bottlings present whisky from a single cask. Here, Decadent Drinks takes a more hands-on approach, bringing together equal parts of 2013 Bunnahabhain from two sherry hogsheads. One Pedro Ximenez cask that previously held Bunnahabhain’s peated Staoisha, and an Oloroso cask, which previously held whisky from neighbouring Ardnahoe.

This LMDW-exclusive bottling from our Itineraires collection shows how an independent bottler can create a new perspective on a familiar Islay distillery. Bottled at 58.3% ABV, it combines citrus and roasted pineapple with coastal salinity and gentle smoke notes.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE THIS HOME

  • If Bunnahabhain 12 years old is a familiar pour, this offers a markedly different view of the distillery through gentle peat, unusual sherry-cask histories and a higher-strength presentation
  • For sherried-whisky drinkers curious about Islay peat, its fruit and coastal salinity provide a more measured route into smoke
  • At 58.3% ABV, it is a whisky to spend time with. Try it neat, then add water gradually (or not) and explore the balance between fruit, salt and smoke.

BEST FOR

Bunnahabhain fans who want to explore beyond the official range, singular cask releases, and sherried-whisky fans looking for an Islay malt where fruit and coastal character lead the peat.

CAOL ILA 13 YO 2012 1st Fill Oloroso 100 Proof #70 Signatory Vintage

Caol Ila is a useful reference point for Islay peat, known for clean smoke, citrus and a maritime edge. Signatory Vintage’s 100 Proof series presents small batches at 57.1% ABV (100 proof on the old British scale) with their age, vintage and cask makeup stated.

Distilled in 2012, this 13 year old was matured in first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry butts and refill hogsheads. The combination retains Caol Ila’s lemony smoke and salinity while introducing dried fruit, cocoa and spice.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE THIS HOME

  • You already enjoy Caol Ila 12 Years Old and want to explore the distillery with greater weight, darker fruit and a higher bottling strength
  • You usually choose between smoky and sherried whisky and want a bottle that gives both a clear presence
  • You want to try a high-strength independent bottling without beginning at single cask prices

BEST FOR

A slow after-dinner pour for connoisseurs and enthusiasts who favour dry, savoury smoke over softer, fruit-led whisky.

KAVALAN 7 YO 2018 Port Cask Itinéraires

Founded in Yilan County in 2005, Kavalan changed perceptions of Taiwanese single malt through careful cask selection and maturation in Taiwan’s subtropical climate. The heat and humidity drive faster interaction between whisky and wood, creating a style of maturation very different from Scotland.

This expression spent all seven years in Port casks, bringing ripe fruit, sweetness and a rich texture to the spirit. Rather than a Port finish layered onto the whisky, the cask shapes the whisky from start to finish.

Bottled exclusively for LMDW’s Itinéraires collection, it’s a chance to see what Port cask maturation can produce outside Scotland.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE THIS HOME

  • If you already enjoy Port wines or Port-cask Scotch, this takes that familiar rich, fruity character somewhere much more intense
  • It’s a distinctive expression that captures what Taiwanese whisky can do with just a cask and it’s climate

BEST FOR

Whisky drinkers ready to move beyond Scotch and discover a rich, fruit-forward world whisky

BENROMACH 15 YO

Benromach is one of Speyside’s smallest distilleries, built on a philosophy of recreating the traditional, pre-1960s Speyside style before the region shifted toward lighter, mass-produced whisky.

At 15 years old, this expression carries a subtle peat smoke and a rich, oily texture, true to how Speyside whisky was traditionally made. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV, it delivers a genuine, full-bodied character without the premium price tag that usually accompanies whisky of this quality.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE THIS HOME

  • If you’re new to Speyside whisky, this is a entry point into the traditional style the region was once known for
  • This full-bodied whisky is built for regular drinking rather than special occasions only, without giving up on quality

BEST FOR

Whisky drinkers who are into authentic scotch with love the smoke of Islay but want a richer, more rounded expression.

PORT ASKAIG 45 YO

Named after the historic harbour on Islay’s north-east coast, Port Askaig is an Islay single malt range created by Elixir Distillers to capture the essence of the island through thoughtful cask selection, maturation and blending.

This release traces back to Hogmanay 1968, when the spirit was distilled unpeated at what remains Islay’s northern distillery, standing apart from the smoky style most associate with the island. Matured for 45 years across five refill sherry butts, it was bottled at natural cask strength, with only 1,200 bottles produced.

WHY YOU’LL WANT TO TAKE THIS HOME

  • Experience a rare unpeated version of the island from one of its oldest active distilleries
  • If you are drawn to whiskies with genuine age and history, and few single malts on the market today were distilled as far back as 1968
  • Bottled at natural cask strength but a gentle 40.8% ABV makes it an approachable sipping experience for a whisky of this rarity and age.

BEST FOR

Collectors seeking a rare, well aged Islay single malt, and enthusiasts curious about Islay’s unpeated side and its extended aged expressions.
