Founded in 2005, Kilchoman is the first distillery to be built on the Isle of Islay in over a century. Cradled by the sea spray from the beach at Machir Bay, the first single malt was born in September 2009. Built on the model of a 19th century “farm distillery”, Kilchoman makes it a point of honor to shape the a peated malt with finely saline accents. The Madeira Cask Matured edition was distilled in May 2015 and aged for 5 years and 3 months in 46 barrels that previously contained Madeira, before being bottled in August 2021. The rich and fruity character of the Madeira casks (walnuts grilled, stewed fruit, caramel) is perfectly balanced with the creamy citrus sweetness that is Kilchoman’s signature.
