Description
Tasting Notes
Colour : Deep orangey copper.
Nose : Rich, concentrated. The marvellously oxidative (brandied cherry, balsamic vinegar), fruity (mango, orange, apricot), finely woody (beeswax, oak stave) and nobly spicy (cardamom, saffron) first nose beams with radiance. Allowed to breathe, subtle fragrances of incense, heady florals (tuberose, rose poivrée) and salted butter caramel bring even more class to the aroma palette. Aromas of Havana cigar and walnut stain then fill the air.
Palate : Balanced, smooth. The very chocolatey and roasted (coffee) attack quickly develops particularly heady floral registers (reseda, freesia, hyacinth, geranium). The silky mid-palate is like the flesh of a perfectly ripe mango. Dried fruit and nuts (chestnut, date, walnut) add an autumnal dimension to the flavour palette.
Finish : Long, noble. The more candied start of the finish (orange, apricot, persimmon) is also oily and refreshingly liquoricey. At the end of the finish, vanilla pod and squares of dark chocolate create a perfect pairing. The slightly tannic retro-nasal olfaction (oak, sugar cane) is heady and infused (iris, verbena, camomile). The complex dried extracts from the empty glass reveal fragrances of cocoa, tobacco and noble wood (sandalwood).
