HANYU Eight of Club

$25,000.00

Self pick-up from our Shop in Robertson Quay only.

From the Ichiro’s Malt Card Series range, this Hanyu 1988, Eight of Clubs, was aged in hogshead bourbon casks before being further matured in American oak puncheon casks. Bottled at natural strength without cold filtration or coloring, this limited edition of 561 bottles showcases rich and complex notes of chestnut, candies, and peat enhanced by a subtle woody character. The addition of water mellows its intensity, making it smoother and oilier.

Tasting Notes

Nose
: Full and delicate. Behind a diaphanous veil of smoke, hints of licorice and leather emerge. Spices (nutmeg, gray pepper) and candied citrus (lemon, grapefruit) are followed by ripe fruits (pear, white peach), vanilla, and white mint.

Palate : Round and velvety. The smoke gives way to dry peat. At the same time, almond milk, fresh walnut, anise, and ginger build up. It lingers with soft wood notes (reeds, bamboo shoots) and malted barley.

Finish : Long and powerful, it returns with strong notes of smoke and citrus (grapefruit). Salty, it also reveals licorice and slightly medicinal (gentian root) aspects. A fine peat envelops it all. The retro-olfaction highlights exotic fruits (pineapple, mango), and the empty glass holds traces of ash and vanilla.
