Since the Benromach distillery reopened in 1998, its owner Gordon & MacPhail has carried out various experiments, playing particularly with different strains of barley and different levels of peating. An organic barley thus led to the production of Benromach Organic, and a malted barley with a higher level of phenols (35 ppm) than in classic versions (approx. 5 ppm) lead to the release of Benromach Peat Smoke.
