SAINT JAMES 12 ans 2010 Magnum Series #2

$250.00

In 1765, the first rums distilled by the “Trou Vaillant” estate were exported to North America under the name Saint-James, which Paulin Lambert decided to adopt for all his production when he purchased the estate in 1882.

In 1902, the eruption of Mount Pelée destroyed part of the distillery, which would not resume operations until 1905. Acquired by the Cointreau company in 1973, it was moved from Saint-Pierre to Sainte-Marie on the east coast of Martinique in 1974.

Since July 14, 2003, it has belonged to La Martiniquaise, the leading producer and distributor of A.O.C. agricultural rum. Claiming a tone of freedom that nothing can hinder, this version easily transcends the natural boundaries of its origins, to the point of evoking one of the most distinctive single malts from Scotland.

Description

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Orange copper.

Nose : Rich, pulpy. At first, sugar and cane honey literally burst from the glass. Then, it fully reveals more root-like aromas (gentian), chocolatey notes, and leguminous hints (carrot, turnip). The whole has an undeniable charm.

Palate : Delicate, creamy. Medicinal (balm), spicy (curry, turmeric), and infused (bay leaf, chervil), the flavor profile demonstrates originality. In some ways, it vividly evokes the Scottish single malt Ben Nevis. Gradually, candied ginger and cocoa powder spread all around the palate.

Finish : Long, serene. Very close to sugar cane, the tasting experience becomes increasingly tertiary (mushroom, roasted nut, moss, chestnut). Milk-like (soy, almond), the retro olfaction is also jammy (quince jelly, apricot), while the empty glass reveals spicy (nutmeg) and root-like (gentian) notes.
