WATERFORD Micro Cuvée Racines Foundations

$185.00

Founded in 2014 in a former Guinness brewery, the Irish distillery Waterford is shaking up the whisky world by emphasizing terroir and barley through an approach inspired by the greatest winemakers.

This Micro Cuvée, made from a blend of single malts aged in bourbon casks (26%), new American oak barrels (24%), and ex-red Bordeaux wine casks (50%), perfectly illustrates the deep connection that links Mark Reynier, the founder of Waterford, to the world of wine. Its aromatic and flavor profile proudly asserts an originality that highlights barley with an uncommon strength of character.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Bright gold

Nose : Fresh, vibrant. Herbaceous (chlorophyll), medicinal (balm), spicy (clove, nutmeg), and fruity (apple), the first nose is a concentration of Ireland. With aeration, the aromatic palette becomes smooth, honeyed (acacia), and vanilla-like (flan).

Palate : Clean, sharp. Malty and tangy (citrus zest), the initial palate reveals smooth flavors of orgeat syrup, green licorice, and germinating barley. The mid-palate evokes a delicious porridge. Then, coconut adds an exotic touch to the finish.

Finish : Long, balanced. Both spicy (cinnamon) and roasted (coffee), the start of the finish is an explosion of fresh fruits (pear, apple, ripe grape, walnut…). Original, the aftertaste brings back the atmosphere of a vegetable garden (zucchini, green bean, green tomato).
Profile: Fresh, herbaceous.
