From its history as a sugar island, Marie-Galante has successfully preserved the cultivation of sugar cane varieties that are now extinct. Among the most common are the red cane and the “B47.258,” a variety dating back to 1947. Harvested by hand and always transported in carts pulled by oxen, these canes are the source of the complex bouquet of Rhum Rhum.
