OLD PULTENEY 19 ans 2004 Bourbon Barrel Single Cask Foundations

$395.00

Located in the heart of the port city of Wick, the Pulteney distillery takes its name from the district where it was founded in 1826.

It produces a single malt whose salty and iodized character has earned it the nicknames “The Maritime Malt” and “Manzanilla of the North.”

A curiosity in the whisky world, the distillery is equipped with a wash still whose swan neck was cut to fit into the distillation room.

A perfect embodiment of the “coastal” style that characterizes the single malts of the Northern Highlands, this version poetically navigates, note by note, between land and sea.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Pale gold.

Nose : Rich, deep. Salty and herbaceous (sea lichen), the initial nose immediately transports us to the seaside. Beautiful aromas of beeswax, alfalfa, and clover then intertwine harmoniously. At this stage, the aromatic palette flirts with peat.

Palate : Lively, substantial. Sea salt rains down on the palate in a medicinal (bandage) opening. Refreshing citrus juices stretch the mid-palate into more milky (coconut) and floral (lavender) flavors.

Finish : Long, dense. Chalky and marine, the beginning of the finish sways with the rhythm of the waves crashing on the shore. Vanilla and fruity (pear, apple), the end of the palate is gradually infused with the ashy flavors of a burning cigar.
