OLD POTRERO 8 ans 2016 Ex Libris The Valley of the Moon

$235.00

In 1993, aiming to revive an 18th-century tradition, a time when most American whiskeys were made from malted rye, Fritz Maytag, owner of the Anchor Brewing Company microbrewery, decided to create his own distillery.

Named Old Potrero, it is located atop San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood. Particularly exuberant with an Oriental influence, this single cask offers an ideal introduction for those looking to discover Old Potrero.

Its aromatic and flavor profile explores with youthful abandon a luxuriant, complex landscape of fruity, floral, and medicinal notes.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Coppery orange.

Nose : Rich, deep. Tertiary (humus, chestnut, mushrooms), chocolatey, and fruity (blood orange), the aromatic profile evolves with sophistication into spicier (ginger) and grainy (rye) tones. With aeration, peppercorns, Tiger Balm, and ylang-ylang scents add a medicinal and heady dimension.

Palate : Lively, intense. Elegantly vanilla-infused and oxidized (apricot, cherry in brandy), the flavor profile gradually becomes more herbal (straw, alfalfa) and more exotic (mango, persimmon). A thin layer of caramel delicately coats the taste buds, and wild strawberries enhance the very end of the palate.

Finish : Long, smooth. The tasting continues indulgently with flavors of quince jelly and apricot tart, while grated coconut adds an exotic touch. Both licorice-like, minty, and floral (iris, lily), the aftertaste also reveals other fruits, this time red (raspberry).
