Description
Tasting Notes
Colour : Mahogany.
Nose : Rich, deep. On the first nose, tar notes mix beautifully with candied fruit (orange, mandarin, apricot) and heady florals (violet, carnation, hyacinth). Allowed to breathe, cocoa powder and grated ginger appear alongside fragrances of sandalwood and patchouli. Then, suddenly, the port cask becomes very noticeable. Black fruits (grape, bramble) and brandied cherries delicately flood the air.
Palate : Full-bodied, fleshy. Continuing on perfectly from the nose, the attack is characterised by notes of pomegranate and candied red fruits (Morello cherries, redcurrant, raspberry). The slender mid-palate weaves an impressively smooth vegetal (sugar cane) and exotic (plantain banana) foundation upon which, with infinite softness, the end of the palate places nobles spices (cumin, cardamom), aromatic plants (dill, verbena) and heady florals (hyacinth, geranium).
Finish : Long, silky. The extraordinarily concentrated and simultaneously evanescent start of the finish is dominated by rose petal and grenadine flavours. The mineral end of the finish (slate) brings to mind black grapes just ready for harvest. On the retro-nasal olfaction, sugar cane honey takes us to Mauritius. The empty glass is chocolatey, syrupy (rock candy) and rich (fig jam).
