Description
Owned exclusively by the Edrington Group since 2017, the Glenrothes distillery has been the victim of fire on several occasions, in 1897, 1903, 1922 and most recently in 1962. In the most devastating fire in 1922 Warehouse 1 was completed destroyed and 900,000 litres of alcohol went up in smoke. Since 1989, its still room, nicknamed The Cathedral, has housed five wash stills and five spirit stills. Unusually these days, it also has its own cooperage. Subtle interlaces of floral, fruity, spicy and woody sequences, its palette of flavours and aromas wavers throughout the tasting between a minimalist classicism and a proudly assumed freedom of tone.
