Created in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, CHICHIBU has become a leading reference for Japanese single malt, driven by a pursuit of craftsmanship and a distinctly Japanese approach to whisky production. Entirely produced on site, the distillery uses traditional techniques alongside innovative methods, including mizunara washbacks, small stills and, with the opening of Chichibu II, new stills heated directly by open flame. This constant exploration brings greater richness, structure and depth to the house’s evolving style.
After four years of anticipation, CHICHIBU The Peated 2026 marks the return of the distillery’s peated single malt for the first time since 2022. More than 40 heavily peated casks at 50 PPM were selected and vatted together, with the whisky matured primarily in premium Bourbon barrels and complemented by Oloroso Sherry casks and bespoke hogsheads re-coopered at Chichibu’s own cooperage. The result is a rich yet refined expression, where elegant smoke meets almond, citrus and spice, followed by fresh fruit, herbal notes and a gentle lingering sweetness.

Nose: Elegant smoke with kumquat, almond and cinnamon, developing into granola, burnt caramel and cocoa with a savoury touch of beef jerky.
Palate: Rich and rounded, with honey and toffee giving way to grapefruit, apple and banana. Fresh mint and ginger add brightness and spice to the mid-palate.
Finish: Smooth and mellow, with gentle lingering smoke alongside fresh grassy and herbal notes, finishing with a delicious orangette character.
Style: Rich, smoky and vibrant.
