Description
Nose:
Rich and unctuous. Supported by a pleasant malty bitterness, earthy and spicy (cinnamon) tones quickly give way to tropical fruits (passion fruit, lychee), dark berries (grape, blackberry) and undergrowth (dry leaves, porcini mushrooms). Subtle hints of prune lend a noble depth.
Appearance:
Topaz.
Palate:
Clean and lively. Initially oily, robustly peaty, lemony and peppery, the flavour profile gradually shifts toward more honeyed and waxy notes. Becoming increasingly creamy, it grows more indulgent (toasted bread, rusk), malty (barley porridge) and delightfully fruity (mirabelle plum, damson).
Overall:
Long and concentrated. Echoing the malty tones of both nose and palate, the finish is lifted by flavours of gentian, mint, eucalyptus and sage. Both exotic (passion fruit) and candied (prune), the retro-olfaction softens over time with notes of toffee and bourbon vanilla.
