CHICHIBU Distillery II

Created in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, Chichibu has quickly established itself as one of Japan’s most respected single malt distilleries, renowned for its meticulous production and pursuit of a truly 100% Japanese whisky through the use of local barley, peat and Japanese oak. Fermented in mizunara oak vats and distilled in small stills, its whiskies show remarkable maturity and complexity from a young age. Opened in 2019 in the mountains of north-western Saitama, Chichibu Distillery II marks a new chapter for the house, and this first official single malt from the site embodies Chichibu’s bright, fruity style, shaped by direct flame-heated stills and predominantly bourbon cask maturation, offering honeyed sweetness, ripe fruit and a subtle touch of peat that leads into a long, malty and refined finish.
