CHICHIBU 2013 Peated

Created by visionary distiller Ichiro Akuto, Chichibu has rapidly established itself as one of Japan’s most exciting whisky distilleries despite being founded only in 2008. Every aspect of production is meticulously controlled, from fermentation in traditional mizunara oak washbacks to distillation in small copper pot stills, producing whiskies of exceptional depth and maturity. The Peated 2013 Edition showcases another side of Chichibu’s craftsmanship, using heavily peated malt at 59.6 ppm to create a bold yet distinctly Japanese interpretation of peated single malt.

Distilled in 2010 and released as the 2013 edition, this limited bottling of just 6,700 bottles is matured primarily in bourbon barrels with a small proportion of Port wine casks, adding subtle layers of fruit beneath the powerful smoke. Rich malt, earthy peat, liquorice, tobacco, and tar are beautifully balanced by fresh orchard fruits and gentle sweetness, creating a whisky that is both intensely smoky and remarkably refined.
