Description
THE BRAND
The Cardhu distillery of today owes its existence to one Elizabeth Cumming. In 1872 she built a new distillery called Cardow, which she then expanded in 1887 and sold to John Walker and Sons Ltd in 1893. Production at the distillery increased and in 1980 Cardow became Cardhu. At the beginning of the millennium its owners decided to turn its single malt, which was extremely popular in Europe, into a blended malt, drawing huge criticism from amateurs and purists alike. Eventually, Diageo reverted back to the “original formula” of Cardhu 12 year old and later extended the range to include a limited edition Cask Strength and, more recently, an 18 year old.
