Founded in 1881 on the north-east coast of Islay, BUNNAHABHAIN is known for producing a distinctive single malt that traditionally favours a rich, weighty spirit with relatively little peat. Its two pear-shaped stills contribute to the distillery’s individual character, while its whisky has also attracted attention from independent bottlers for its ability to develop complexity through extended maturation.
Distilled in 1975 and aged for 36 years, this joint bottling by The Whisky Agency (T.W.A.) showcases a fascinating meeting of sherry influence and Islay character. Initially dominated by the richness of sherry, the whisky gradually reveals its underlying identity through notes of peat and dried herbs, intertwined with the fruity, oxidative character associated with long maturation in sherry casks. The result is a mature and layered expression that bridges the richness of Andalusian sherry with the distinctive character of Islay malt.
