SMOGEN 9 ans 2013 Twin Barrels 95 Proof New Vibrations

Founded in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, the Smögen distillery is known for offering bottlings at natural strength. This version, made from the Optic barley variety and heavily peated (50 ppm), deviates from the rule. It has been reduced to 95 proof according to the Sikes scale, a unit of measurement formerly used in Great Britain and Canada, which equates to 54.3%. Remarkably contrasting, its aromatic and gustatory palette favors an omnipresent peat that constantly highlights the other ingredients.

Tasting Notes

: Green gold.

Nose : Fine, rich. At first sniff, peat notes are nuanced by fruity (lemon), ashy, saline, and vegetal fragrances (ivy, grass). Upon aeration, the aromatic palette becomes more vanilla-infused and candied (pear, mirabelle), then spiced (clove, nutmeg).

Palate : Lively, precise. Similar to the nose, multifaceted peat dominates the palate’s entry. Finely licorice-flavored, rooty (ginseng), and saline, the mid-palate evolves toward vanilla and fruity notes (pear, apple). The finish is spicy (saffron curry) and lemony.

Finish : Long, slender. Pleasant aniseed and menthol flavors refresh the palate. Evoking dry peat, the aftertaste reveals unique basil and oregano notes. The finish is indulgent, unveiling praline candies and lavender honey.

Profile : Lively, precise. Anise, ginseng, basil.
