OLD POTRERO 9 ans 2014 Ex Libris The Call of the Wild

$270.00

In 1993, aiming to revive a tradition dating back to the 18th century, a time when most American whiskeys were made from malted rye, Fritz Maytag, owner of the microbrewery Anchor Brewing Company, decided to create his own distillery.

Named Old Potrero, it is located atop San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, from which it takes its name.

Deeply mature and complex, this version offers an ideal introduction for anyone interested in discovering Old Potrero.

Packed with spicy, earthy, mineral, and root-like notes, its aromatic and flavor profile has also preserved the fruity and floral freshness that characterizes this unique rye whiskey.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Coppery orange.

Nose : Airy, elegant. Both spicy (Cayenne, paprika), earthy (bacon), and with a pleasantly chocolatey bitterness, the aromatic profile gradually becomes more exotic (banana, pineapple) and spicy (clove). Over time, rich floral notes (lily, iris, hyacinth) fill the surroundings.

Palate : Vibrant, slender. Root-like (gentian), fruity (orange, quince), indulgent (gingerbread, toffee), and grainy (rye), the flavor profile is deliciously vanilla-infused. Then, like the nose, it evolves into increasingly exotic tones (persimmon, mango, guava).

Finish : Long, silky. A perfect synthesis of the nose and palate, the finish invites us to savor flambéed bananas and a mango coulis. Floral (lavender, lilac), the aftertaste is also notably mineral (slate, charcoal). Intense rye aromas escape from the empty glass.
