Founded in 1823, Mortlach is one of Speyside’s most distinctive distilleries, renowned for producing a rich, full-bodied spirit unlike any other. Nicknamed “The Beast of Dufftown”, its character is shaped by an intricate 2.81 times distillation process and traditional worm tub condensers, creating a muscular, meaty distillate with exceptional depth. Although much of its production is destined for premium blends, independent bottlings have long been prized for revealing Mortlach’s bold and complex personality.
Distilled in 2014 and matured for 11 years in 1st Fill Oloroso sherry casks, this 100 Proof #73 release from Signatory Vintage perfectly showcases the marriage between Mortlach’s robust spirit and active sherry oak. Bottled at 100 Proof (57.1% ABV) without chill filtration or added colouring, it delivers remarkable intensity while maintaining balance and precision. Layers of dark fruits, rich chocolate, savoury complexity and warming spice combine to create a powerful yet refined Speyside single malt.
