A 6 Year Old single malt with the maturity of a 40 Year Old or older Speyside – that’s how good this Taiwanese single malt is. Aged in a sub-tropical climate that accelerates the ageing process, the Kavalan sherry cask version is darker than the oldest of the sherry cask single malts we’ve tasted from Scotland. With the sole exception perhaps of the legendary Black Bowmore 1964/1994 with which it shares a slight rancidity and fruitiness bordering on the exotic.

Made from water sourced from the Hsuehshan (“Snowy Mountains”) mountains, Kavalan Sherry is a single malt from the Solist range, a collection of the distillery’s very best cask strength bottlings. Aged in oloroso sherry barrels, hand-bottled, undiluted, caramel-free and non-chill filtered, this is a rich, exotic and complex whisky that has already been voted the Best Rest of the World Single Malt at the World Whisky Awards 2011.
