Founded in 1955 at the foot of Japan’s majestic Alps in Nagano Prefecture, Karuizawa has become one of the most legendary names in Japanese whisky. Renowned for its rich, complex single malts crafted from prized Golden Promise barley and matured predominantly in sherry casks, the distillery earned an almost mythical reputation before ceasing production in 2000. Today, every remaining bottle is a rare collector’s piece, celebrated for its extraordinary quality and scarcity.
Distilled in 1980 and matured for 34 years in Ex-Bourbon Barrel #6476, this La Maison du Whisky exclusive forms part of the Artifice Series, featuring artwork by renowned Singaporean artist Warren Khong. Limited to just 370 bottles, this remarkable single cask offers a fascinating departure from Karuizawa’s classic sherry style, allowing the distillery’s elegant spirit to shine through decades of bourbon cask maturation. Vibrant, refined and exceptionally expressive, it unfolds layer after layer of fresh fruit, herbs, noble oak and delicate spice, showcasing the remarkable complexity that only time can create.
