Founded in 1955 at the foot of Mount Asama in Nagano Prefecture, the distillery earned its iconic status through richly sherried single malts crafted from Golden Promise barley and matured in exceptional casks. Following its closure in 2000, Karuizawa’s remaining stocks became some of the world’s most sought-after whiskies, treasured for their rarity, depth and unmistakable character.

This 1984 Artifice Series release is especially significant, representing the final cask from the 1980s selected by the La Maison du Whisky team in Japan in 2012. Created in collaboration with Singaporean artist Warren Khong, the Artifice collection celebrates the meeting of exceptional whisky and contemporary art. Drawn from Single Cask #5410, an ex-Sherry cask, this remarkable bottling perfectly captures the Karuizawa house style—elegant yet powerful, balancing the sweetness of malted barley with vibrant fruit, warming spices and beautifully controlled oak.
