The Karuizawa distillery was built in 1955 in the city of the same name, in Nagano prefecture, in the heart of the Japanese Alps. If in general Japanese whiskey enjoys a very good reputation, Karuizawa is especially sought after and appreciated by connoisseurs. Awarded many times in international competitions, it is a whiskey that owes much of its character to the variety of barley used: “Golden Promise” and to aging in sherry casks. Since its production ceased in 2000, versions have become increasingly rare and increasingly popular.
Karuizawa has become a more than legendary single malt. This absolutely remarkable 1981 vintage is on par with the 1977, 1967 and another 1981 bottled for La Maison du Whiskey a few years ago.
