Karuizawa is one of Japan’s most legendary and collectible whisky distilleries. Established in 1955 at the foot of Mount Asama in Nagano Prefecture, it became renowned for producing rich, full-bodied single malts crafted from Golden Promise barley and matured predominantly in high-quality sherry casks. Following the distillery’s closure in 2000, remaining stocks became increasingly scarce, elevating Karuizawa to cult status among collectors and whisky enthusiasts worldwide.

Distilled in 2000 and matured for 12 years in a sherry cask, this Dragon Label release, selected by Paola Parisi, is a striking expression of Karuizawa’s elegant yet powerful house style. Cask #166 showcases a beautifully balanced profile, where vibrant fruit and honeyed sweetness meet the rich influence of sherry oak. As one of the final vintages produced before the distillery fell silent, this rare bottling represents both an outstanding Japanese single malt and a highly sought-after collector’s piece.
