IMPERIAL 33 ans 1990 REFILL AMERICAN HOGSHEAD Recollection Gordon & Macphail
$2,900.00
Built by Thomas MacKenzie in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, the Imperial distillery was established in the heart of Speyside with grand architectural ambition, including malting facilities crowned by a cast-iron crown.
After being mothballed in 1899, it reopened in 1919, remained silent for another 30 years, and then resumed operations to supply spirit for blended whiskies, before permanently closing in 1998.
In 2013, the distillery buildings were demolished, and the Dalmunach distillery now stands on the same site. Single malts bearing the Imperial name are the epitome of rarity, with their reputation continuing to grow.
This forgotten masterpiece was distilled in 1990 and aged for 33 years in a refill American hogshead under the care of Gordon & MacPhail, before being bottled at 52.7%.
The Recollection #3 range, through a selection of meticulously chosen bottlings, revisits the history of Scotland’s closed distilleries.
These whiskies, preserved in Gordon & MacPhail’s warehouses, capture the essence of a bygone era and a significant chapter in the history of Scotch whisky.
