This Glen Grant 1954 is the fifth and final release in Gordon & MacPhail’s acclaimed Mr George Legacy Series, created in tribute to George Urquhart, revered as the “Father of Single Malt Whisky”. The bottling celebrates his lifelong dedication to balancing spirit, cask, and time in pursuit of the perfect dram.

Founded in 1895 in Elgin, Scotland, Gordon & MacPhail (G&M) is a family-owned independent bottler now led by the fourth generation of the Urquhart family. Renowned as one of the only houses in the world with the expertise and long-standing relationships to take new-make spirit from Scotland’s leading distilleries and match it to carefully chosen casks, G&M has been the quiet curator behind some of the oldest and rarest single malts ever released, including this remarkable Glen Grant 1954. Beyond its maturation legacy, G&M also owns Benromach Distillery, a revival of traditional Speyside whisky-making, further cementing its place in Scotch history.

Launched in January 2025 to mark G&M’s 130th anniversary, only 130 bottles of this extraordinary 70 year old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky exist worldwide, making it one of the rarest whiskies ever released.

Distilled on 24 April 1954 at the Glen Grant Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, it spent its entire life maturing in a single first-fill sherry puncheon (cask #1823) under the careful stewardship of G&M before being bottled on 6 January 2025 at natural cask strength of 50.5% ABV. This release closes the Mr George Legacy Series with fitting gravity.

Renowned whisky writer Charlie MacLean described it as “a worthy celebration of the achievement and legacy of a remarkable man”. It has also received critical acclaim from WhiskyFun, scoring 93 points.
