DOMAINE DE BIGOR 1963 Version Française Antipodes

$525.00

After the 2000 vintage in the À La Conquête des Origines creation catalogue, this version produced at Domaine de Bigor — hence owned by Maison Veuve Goudoulin — is the oldest ever bottled for La Maison du Whisky’s Version Française range. Made with Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes, its aroma palette is marvellously oxidative, heady and powdery. The amazingly fresh and youthful flavours develop increasingly mature and autumnal tones over time.

Tasting Notes

Colour : Orangey copper with glints of mahogany.

Nose : Rich yet subtle. The magnificently oxidative first nose (beeswax, brandied cherries) elegantly develops tertiary and exotic registers that overflow with lyricism, revealing lime blossom, chestnut, porcini mushroom, mango, pineapple and guava. Allowed to breathe, empyreumatic notes of Russian leather, apricot stone and flambeed banana seep deep into the taste buds. Then come cocoa powder and candied apricots accompanied by fragrances of tuberose, heather honey and tiger balm.

Palate : Lively, sharp. With impressive youth, the attack is lemony, vanilla and milky (coconut, almond). On the mid-palate, candied apricot and bitter orange release a sweet and tangy juice. The end of the palate is refreshed with infusions of marjoram, peppermint and camomile.

Finish : Long, full. At the start of the finish, flavours of grated ginger, cashew nut and red tea delicately envelop the palate. The oily end of the finish is characterised by very noble notes of pipe tobacco. The deliciously liquorice and praline retro-nasal olfaction also recreates polish flavours (wax, wood varnish, sandalwood, antique furniture). The empty glass reveals stunningly mature forest floor aromas (moss, mushroom, dead leaves).
