BLAIR ATHOL 8 ans 2016 Sherry Exclusive Foundations Elixir Distillers

$125.00

Founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson, the Aldour distillery, located in Pitlochry, was renamed Blair Athol in 1825.

Closed in 1932, it resumed production in 1949, and the number of its stills increased from two to four in 1973.

Remarkable for its floral, fruity, and autumnal complexity, the aromatic and flavor profile of this small batch from two sherry casks has a common thread: a noble spice, ginger, connecting all three stages of the tasting.

Description

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Orange copper.

Nose : Ample, creamy. A subtle blend of toffee, barley grain, mango, and honeysuckle, the aromatic palette is pure enchantment. Upon aeration, red and black fruits (raspberry, blackberry), ginger, and heather honey add even more complexity and elegance.

Palate : Both smooth and fresh. Offering a delicious marmalade to savor, the flavor profile is also marked by notes of peach, ripe apricot, and praline. Then, ginger and gentian gradually envelop the taste buds.

Finish : Long, indulgent. Tertiary in nature, the flavor profile is now fully devoted to dried fruits: date, fig, walnut, chestnut, raisin… This sensation of deep maturity is reinforced by even more autumnal flavors (moss, mushrooms) and powdery notes (cocoa, grated ginger).
