Founded in 1824 in the heart of Speyside, Balmenach is known for producing a robust and malty single malt with a more rustic and structured character than many of its Speyside counterparts. The distillery has had relatively few official single malt releases, with much of its production historically destined for blends. As a result, its rarer single cask expressions are often found through independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage.
This 2016 vintage Balmenach, bottled by Signatory Vintage at 100 Proof, was matured for 10 years in 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts. The active sherry casks bring considerable depth and intensity to Balmenach’s powerful spirit, layering rich dried fruit, cocoa, nuts and warming spice over its malty foundation. The result is a rustic yet indulgent single malt with impressive character for its age.

Nose: Rich and expressive, with raisins, cocoa and toasted hazelnuts alongside candied orange and dark malt.
Palate: Powerful and warming, with dates, dark chocolate and spiced caramel. Walnuts and toasted oak add depth and structure.
Finish: Long and generous, with lingering dried fruits, mocha and a gentle peppery touch.
Style: Rustic and indulgent. Raisins, cocoa, hazelnut.
