ARDMORE 14 ans 2009 Foundations Elixir Distillers

$180.00

Founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, the Ardmore distillery expanded from two to four stills in 1955, and from four to eight in 1974.

Until 2002, these stills were heated by direct fire using coal. The distillery also produces a non-peated single malt called Ardlair.

Displaying a phenol level between 12 and 14 ppm, this version evolves throughout the tasting with both rustic and smoky characteristics. This duality gives it not only a lot of personality but also a great deal of charm.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Bright gold.

Nose : Ample, deep. Scents of soot, damp earth, dark chocolate, lemon, candied pear, and iris concrete highlight the richness and diversity of an aromatic palette that is truly captivating. With aeration, it becomes maltier, salty, and peppery.

Palate : Firm, dynamic. Supported by a very pleasant lemony acidity, the flavor profile reveals sun-drying blocks of peat. Rustic in nature (dandelion, compost), it gradually becomes vanilla-infused (vanilla bean), licorice-like (zan), and smoky (bitumen, fuel).

Finish : Long, full-bodied. A blend of oily peat, soot, and smoke, the flavor profile sharply evokes the atmosphere of a kiln. Increasingly animalistic (bresaola, air-dried meat), it also fully expresses more exotic (pineapple, banana) and candied (pear) flavors.
