Description
Colour: Deep old gold.
Nose: Delicate and unctuous. Abundant notes of malted barley, cut hay, oily, drying peat, sea spray, pipe tobacco and savoury hints (bacon) form a finely balanced aromatic palette. With aeration, floral (hyacinth), vanilla, ashy, peppery and medicinal (balm) notes add further complexity.
Palate: Lively and dynamic. Initially earthy, chocolatey, herbal, mineral (chalk) and saline, the flavour profile quickly shifts towards smokier, camphorated and medicinal tones (iodine tincture), before softening into gentle malty and fruity notes of orange and apricot.
Finish: Generous and airy. A pleasing malty, smoky and saline bitterness is lifted by candied lemon and Williams pear. In retro-nasal perception, toffee and roasted nut flavours harmonise beautifully with peat and smoke, which gradually take centre stage.
