NORTH PORT BRECHIN 42 ans 1981 REFILL AMERICAN HOGSHEAD Recollection Gordon & Macphail

$6,500.00

Single malts bearing the original name of the distillery, Brechin Distillery, are extremely rare. Founded in 1820 near Scotland’s east coast by three brothers—David, John, and Alexander Guthrie—the distillery was located half a mile from the River Esk.

It remained in the family’s hands for over a century before being renamed North Port Distillery, only to be closed by its new owners in 1928.

It reopened after World War II but was mothballed again in 1983, with the site ultimately demolished in 1994.

Whisky writer Michael Jackson described its spirit as “dry and fruity,” and this 42-year-old single malt, aged in a refill sherry butt by Gordon & MacPhail, is a forgotten masterpiece that revives the spirit of a bygone era.

Distilled in 1981, it was aged for four decades before being bottled at 50.9%. The Recollection #3 range, through a series of meticulously selected bottlings, celebrates the history of Scotland’s closed distilleries.

These whiskies, preserved in Gordon & MacPhail’s warehouses, reflect specific moments in time and chapters of Scotland’s rich whisky heritage.
