Founded in 1897, Imperial had one of the most turbulent histories in Scotch whisky, spending almost as much time closed as it did in operation. Much of its production was historically destined for blends such as Teachers and Ballantine’s, leaving very few official single malt releases available. Following its final closure in 1998, Imperial became a lost Speyside distillery, making remaining stocks increasingly rare and highly sought after among collectors and enthusiasts.
This Imperial 34 Year Old, selected by Elixir Distillers for The Single Malts of Scotland – Director’s Special series, is an exceptionally rare single cask release matured in an ex-bourbon cask for more than three decades. Limited to only 162 bottles, it beautifully captures Imperial’s elegant and fruity spirit while showcasing the depth and complexity that only extended ageing can provide. Rich yet delicate, this whisky presents a refined balance between mature oak influence and the timeless character of a lost distillery.
