Distilled in 2014 and aged for 10 years in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, this Benriach single malt was bottled at 57.1% ABV, placing it firmly within Signatory Vintage’s 100 Proof range.
The term 100 Proof refers to the historic British system of measuring alcohol strength, equivalent to what is commonly known as Navy Strength. At this intensity, the whisky retains remarkable aromatic clarity while delivering heightened depth, texture and power. This approach allows the distillery character and cask influence to express themselves without dilution, offering a tasting experience that is both uncompromising and richly rewarding.
Here, first-fill Oloroso casks bring a gourmet and opulent profile, amplifying dark fruit sweetness, cocoa richness and warming spice. It is a bold Speyside single malt designed for drinkers seeking structure, intensity and complexity, while remaining balanced and expressive.
Founded in 1898 by John Duff in the heart of Speyside, Benriach Distillery has one of the most distinctive histories in Scotch whisky. After an early closure in 1900 due to the whisky crisis, the distillery lay largely dormant for decades, surviving only through its malting floors, before being revived in the 1960s.
Today, Benriach is recognised for its innovative spirit and remarkable cask diversity. Following its acquisition by an independent group in 2004 and later integration into the Brown-Forman group in 2016, the distillery underwent a comprehensive overhaul in 2020, reimagining both its range and visual identity.
With one of the richest cask inventories in Europe—including ex-bourbon, sherry, port, rum, Madeira and Marsala casks—Benriach offers an extraordinary palette for maturation and blending. It is also notable for being a pioneer of peated malt distillation in Speyside during the 1970s, a rarity in the region.
Under the guidance of Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie, Benriach continues to release highly complex whiskies, both peated and unpeated, celebrated for their depth, balance and aromatic diversity.
