BALLECHIN 2014 Bourbon Barrel Foundations

$200.00

Completely renovated in 2018, the historic distillery founded in 1825 is now exclusively reserved for the production of its peated single malt: Ballechin.

With a phenol content of 50 ppm, it has become, in just over twenty years, the equal of the greatest single malts from the island of Islay.

Aged in a first-fill bourbon barrel, this version evolves at the pace of a peat that, while omnipresent, knows how to be generous when the moment calls for it.

The fruity, spicy, and vanilla tones that adorn its aromatic and flavor palette without any restraint are a striking proof of this.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Bright gold.

Nose : Rich, full-bodied. Initially, aromas of rich peat and smoked bacon are accompanied by scents of candied fruits (pear, mirabelle). With aeration, the aromatic palette becomes more heady (iris concrete, violet). Pleasantly saline, it then evolves into nobly spiced notes (cardamom, clove).

Palate : Lively, dynamic. Continuing from the nose, the taste palette gradually reveals peat with more herbal (alfalfa, verbena) and camphor accents. Then, evoking a malting area, it gradually becomes chocolatey. Wildflowers also highlight its pastoral character.

Finish : Long, indulgent. Silky vanilla notes lead the tasting into more empyreumatic flavors of still-warm ashes. This warm sequence is then gradually refreshed by aniseed and menthol flavors. Dual in nature, the retro olfaction shares between the candied fruits from the nose and the herbal-tinged peat from the palate.
