The “Best Single Malt in the World”! This highly coveted title awarded twice (in 2002 and 2008) at the World Whiskies Awards to the Yoichi single malt was a shock to Scottish distillers and a revelation to many enthusiasts. The Yoichi distillery, located 1km from the Sea of Japan, produces a whisky with salty and slightly medicinal notes, similar to the Islay whiskies of Scotland. Yoichi has its own cooperage and takes special care in the selection of barrels, made on site from new oak, a now rare practice in Scotland.
