A Thai spirit crafted within the Bangyukhan distillery, Mekhong is a traditional Thai alcohol. Created in 1941, it was named after the Mekong River, made famous during the challenging demarcation of the border with Laos. Mekhong will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2011. This alcohol is distilled from 95% molasses and 5% rice, to which sugar, spices, and aromatic herbs are added. Bottled at 35%, Mekhong is an essential component of cocktails, including the Sabai Sabai, the traditional Thai welcome cocktail.
