HOY COMO AYER CUBA 1956

$2,650.00

In the aftermath of World War II, the island of Cuba housed 69 distilleries, including Bacardi (founded in 1862), Mathusalem (1872), and La Vizcaya (1878), where Ron Havana Club was produced.

On October 13, 1960, the nineteen remaining distilleries, along with one hundred and five sugar plantations, were nationalized. Distilled in the year La Maison du Whisky was founded, Cuba 1956 tells nearly seventy years of a history rich in significant events, evoking universally appealing imagery.

Through its slow maturation in rum barrels, this venerable version has acquired a maturity of expression that commands admiration and encourages reflection.

Furthermore, having successfully withstood the test of time, its aromatic and flavor profile evolves with timeless sequences of fruitiness, floral notes, noble woodiness, and spices.

Tasting Notes

Colour
: Mahogany.

Nose : Rich, deep. Very complex, the aromatic profile oscillates between scents of crème brûlée, roasted nuts, orange marmalade, dried apricot, mango, raisins, prunes, turmeric, beeswax, Russian leather, and Armenian paper.

Palate : Full of liveliness, indulgent. Set on a bed of burnt sugar cane, the flavor profile is powdery (cocoa, ginger), roasted, and concentrated (iris concrete). It evolves indulgently with flavors of rum baba, tonka bean, and fig jam.

Finish : Long, slightly tannic. A fine layer of soot initially covers the taste space. Then, providing the sensation of smoking a delightful Havana, the flavor profile becomes increasingly warm. Chocolaty, spicy (cinnamon), and ashy, the retro-nasal olfaction recalls the apricot and jam notes from the nose.
