HELLYERS ROAD 21 ans 2003 Ex Libris Waking Dreams

$780.00

Bottled at 46,.2% ABV without chill-filtration or added colouring, this Hellyers Road single malt offers a pure reflection of Tasmanian terroir. Unlike many modern distilleries, Hellyers Road conducts is mashing, distillation and bottling entirely on site, drawing on locally grown barley and a cool coastal climate that encourages long, expressive maturation. Founded in 1999, the distillery has since become known for its mastery of both peated and unpeated styles, classic oak ageing and experimental cask finishes.

This expression is crafted almost exclusively from Franklin barley, grown and malted in Tasmania by Joe White Maltings. It preserves the brightness of youth while revealing impressive maturity and depth, qualities that place it firmly within the lineage of the most distinguished Hellyers Road bottlings selected over the years by La Maison du Whisky.

This Hellyers Road 21 Years Old 2003 expression appears under LMDW’s Ex-Libris collection, a series that inteprets each whisky as a “volume” of flavour and character, much like a treasured book. Each bottling in Ex-Libris is chosen for its narrative strength: ability to express origin, technique and terroir and clarity. This Hellyers Road expression fits seamlessly within that philosophy.

Its flavour profile is shaped by exotic nuances and a striking freshness. Beneath the layers of fruit and malt lies a distinctive balsamic and saline character, giving the whisky both structure and tension. Balanced, complex and true to its origins, this is Australian single malt with a compelling sense of place.

Description

Colour: Deep gold

Nose: Both fresh and concentrated. Covered by a thin layer of tiger balm, the nose opens with aromas of fruit (pear, pineapple), vanilla, and acacia honey. With aeration, the aromatic profile becomes beautifully herbaceous (cut hay, alfalfa), malty, and spicy (grated ginger)

Palate: Nuanced, subtle. A blend of vivacity and smoothness, the flavour profile is remarkably complex. Notes of vanilla, chalk, and a touch of tartness (candied lemon) emerge. Perfectly balanced, it gradually develops a tender maltiness and a rich, indulgent character (reminiscent of Aix-en-Provence calissons)

Finish: Long, silky. By giving free rein to the profoundly exotic character of this magnificent Hellyers Road (banana, kiwi, lychee), the finish inevitably echoes the initial aromas. Then, flavours of camphor and cedar add a particularly seductive balsamic and saline dimension to the whole
