Hanyu, distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2009 at natural strength, is part of the “Noh Whisky” series created by Number One Drinks, the company founded by David Croll and Marcin Miller in 2006, responsible for numerous bottlings of Karuizawa whisky, in support of the Noh theater troupe Kamiasobi, founded in 1997 to promote this traditional Japanese art dating back to the 14th century. In this case, the character depicted on the label is Saigyouzakura, the spirit of the cherry tree. The whisky was aged for twenty-one years in a Spanish oak sherry butt (#9306), from which 625 bottles were drawn. This is one of only two Hanyu whiskies in the Noh Whisky series.
