EL MASSAYA Arak Single Amphore

$120.00

The Ghosn family produces the last artisanal Arak at their Tanaïl estate in the Bekaa Valley, using the endemic white grape variety Obeideh. Distilled three times in a unique still heated with vine wood embers, it is then aged for eight months in terracotta amphorae. Sourced from a single amphora, this version is to Arak what single casks are to whisky.

Description

Tasting Notes

Nose : Without water, it reveals smoky (vine shoots) and ashy notes. Eucalyptus and cedar enhance its heady character. In the depths of its aromatic palette, hints of anise and dried fruits (apricot, almond) emerge. With water, anise takes center stage, complemented by menthol, lemon, and praline notes. Aromatic herbs abound.

Palate : Without water, licorice and anise share the spotlight equally. Dense and robust, it revisits dried fruits (adding dates and figs). With water, it displays remarkable precision and finesse. Refreshing and vibrant, it coats the palate without any heaviness.

Finish : Long and stripped down, it continually refines itself, retaining only the essence: gustatory freshness. With water, it stays true to its goal—avoiding any vulgarity. Fresh mint and chlorophyll add a touch of green to the finish.
