Distilled in 1979 and matured for an extraordinary 30 years, this rare Caol Ila was selected and bottled at cask strength by the prestigious independent bottler Berry Bros. & Rudd in 2010. One of Scotland’s oldest wine and spirits merchants, Berry Bros. & Rudd is renowned for its meticulous cask selection, releasing only whiskies that faithfully express the unique character of their distillery. This exceptional bottling showcases the elegance and complexity that long-aged Caol Ila is celebrated for.
Unlike many heavily peated Islay whiskies, Caol Ila is admired for its refined balance of smoke, maritime freshness, and delicate fruitiness. Distilled through the distillery’s distinctive large onion-shaped stills, the spirit develops remarkable finesse over extended maturation. After three decades in oak, this 1979 vintage reveals beautifully integrated peat smoke, coastal salinity, citrus, waxy malt, and gentle spice, creating a whisky of exceptional depth, harmony, and sophistication.
