A bold young Islay whisky full of energy and edge, this Bunnahabhain Staoisha 6 Years Old 2018 is part of Elixir Distillers’ celebrated Single Malts of Scotland (SMOS) Small Batch range. Drawn from five refill hogsheads and bottled at 48% ABV, it showcases a rarely seen side of Bunnahabhain: a heavily peated, mineral-driven profile shaped by the island’s windswept northern coast.
On the nose, chalky brine and assertive peat burst forward with lime zest, nettle vegetation and a dusting of dark chocolate. The palate opens juicy and saline, carried by lime, sea spray and nettle cordial, before deepening into high-cocoa chocolate studded with crystallised lime peel. The finish lingers on lime leaf and dusty coal smoke, leaving a vivid impression of coastal Islay intensity.
