Ballechin (Edradour) Vintage – Monbazillac Cask Finish is a boldly peated Highland single malt distilled using barley peated to around 50 ppm, a level comparable to the smokiest Islay malts. Released annually in limited quantities of around 6,000 bottles, this expression was entirely matured in Monbazillac wine casks, drawing inspiration from the sweet wines of Southwest France. From the first sip, its multidimensional profile unfolds with remarkable smoothness, combining intense fruitiness, honeyed richness and fresh herbal tones.
Created in 2006 following the acquisition of Edradour by Andrew Symington, Ballechin was developed with the guidance of Iain Henderson, former director of Laphroaig, as a heavily peated counterpart to Edradour’s classic style. Produced at the historic Edradour distillery—fully renovated in 2018—Ballechin is distinguished by its exclusive use of wine cask maturation, notably Burgundy, Madeira and, in this case, Monbazillac, redefining the boundaries of peated Highland whisky.
