Despite the end of Prohibition in 1933, several U.S. states and cities remain dry states and dry communities where alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.

The city of Evanston in Illinois, a stronghold of the Temperance movement, did not lift this ban until 1972. It wasn’t until 2008 that the first grain spirits distillery opened its doors in Evanston: Few Spirits. The name of this “craft” distillery takes the initials of Frances Elizabeth Willard, a leader of the Temperance movement who championed the values of Prohibition. The name FEW also refers to the distillery’s small production capacity.
