Through the Grapevine is a collection curated by La Maison & Velier (LM&V), the joint venture between La Maison du Whisky and Velier. It is dedicated to revealing the artisan heart of Cognac. Each bottling is drawn from a single cask and released without additives, allowing the terroir, distillation style and ageing to speak with total clarity. Lot 94 from Vallein Tercinier is an enchanting exploration of the Fins Bois terroir. Complex, autumnal and texturally rich, it unveils generous layers of fruit, flowers, chocolate, spice, medicinal tones and soft empyreumatic notes. Its flavour and aroma palette offers a vivid sense of place, shaped by the region’s mixture of clay, limestone and sandy soils. This single cask stands out for its depth and vibrancy, capturing the natural elegance and warmth the define Fins Bois when expressed at maturity.

Based in Chermignac in the heart of Saintogne, Domaine des Forges has remained in the Vallein-Tercinier family since 1791. Today, sixth-generation custodians, Catherine and Louis Tercinier, continue the house tradition of distilling wines from their own Bons Bois and Fins Bois vineyards, while also selecting exceptional eaux-de-vie from other crus for their independent bottlings. Known for their meticulous blending and deep cellar reserves, the Tercinier family produces Cognacs of remarkable precision, purity and character. Lot 94 is a testament to that legacy: expressive, refined and unmistakably Vallein Tercinier.

Description

Colour: Deep copper.

Nose: Rich and concentrated. Floral (iris, hyacinth), fruity (apricot, mango) and powdery (cocoa, ginger), the aromatic profile is both elegant and complex. With aeration, further fruit emerges (banana, blackberry, raisin), before empyreumatic notes of incense and apricot kernel envelop the nose.

Palate: Clean and lively. In keeping with the nose, flavours of beeswax, marmalade, grated ginger and cinnamon dominate, before evolving towards medicinal (balm) and citrus notes. Hints of salted butter caramel, walnut and gentian root follow, radiating maturity.

Finish: Long and balanced. Oxidative and rancio (cherry brandy, prune), yet also smooth (quince jelly) and chocolatey, the finish is accented by liquorice and roasted coffee. Honeyed (lavender), the retro-olfaction takes on oriental notes of Turkish delight and rose petal. Full-bodied, the empty glass reveals floral (violet), mineral (chalk) and herbal (tobacco) nuances.
