Founded by the King Car Group, Kavalan Distillery takes its name from an ancient indigenous tribe that once lived in Taiwan’s north-eastern region. From its inception, Kavalan set out to produce world-class single malt whisky, enlisting the expertise of the late Dr. Jim Swan, whose guidance was instrumental in shaping its maturation philosophy. First distilled on 11 March 2006, Kavalan released its debut whisky in December 2008, rapidly gaining international acclaim through award-winning single cask releases. Following major expansion works in 2016, Kavalan entered the elite circle of the world’s ten largest distilleries, with an annual capacity of 9 million litres of pure alcohol—yet it continues to emphasise cask selection, balance and aromatic precision over sheer scale.
